This Saturday, October 12th, racing fans can expect an exciting day at Royal Randwick featuring the 2024 King Charles III Stakes. The race is a 1600m Group 1 weight-for-age event for horses three years old and up. It is part of the Everest Day card and is possible to attract the country’s best milers and stayers.

Formerly the George Main Stakes and held in mid-September as a lead-up to major races like the Epsom Handicap the race has been updated followed by the coronation of King Charles III.

Run under weight-for-age conditions the King Charles III Stakes has a storied history dating back to its first edition in 1945, when it was won by Modulation. The race has been a significant lead-up event for horses trying to qualify for major spring events such as the Epsom Handicap and the Cox Plate. With the massive prize money now on offer the race is set to attract in the King Charles 2024 not only top-class milers but also some of the country’s best stayers looking to cash in on Sydney’s spring riches.

This year, 17 horses have been nominated for the King Charles III Stakes, with leading trainer Chris Waller dominating the pre-field with five potential runners. His stable includes Fangirl 2.80, the current second-favorite for the race, who will be aiming to add another Group 1 title to her resume. Joining her from the Waller stable are Democracy Manifest 26, Hinged 51, Zougotcha 26, and Rediener 51, giving Waller a strong hand in the race.

One of the key challengers to Waller’s dominance in the King Charles 2024 will be Amelia’s Jewel 13, trained by Annabel Neasham. The Jewel has already proven her class, having won the Group 1 Northerly at Royal Ascot in 2022. Now, she’ll be looking to secure her first Group 1 victory under Neasham’s guidance. Stablemate My Oberon 18 could also line up in the race, having shown flashes of form this spring, including a second-place finish to Fangirl in the 7 Stakes.

The current race favorite, Pride Of Jenni 2.30, will be looking to maintain her stellar form. After a memorable victory in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, she returns to Randwick with hopes of continuing her winning streak. In the meantime, Celestial Legend 11, which won the Doncaster Mile, will be added to further heighten its very rivalrous lineup.

It is shaping up to be one of the season highlights on the racing calendar in Sydney. It promises to be a race day that punters and racing fans won’t forget for as long as they live as The Everest joins the fray alongside five Group races, including the King Charles III Stakes. With top-class horses, massive prize money, and fierce competition, the 2024 King Charles III Stakes promises to be an unmissable event at Royal Randwick.
